Migrating from Outlook to Mozilla Thunderbird
From the main Thunderbird window click on Tools and then Import...
Click on the Address Books radio button, then click on Next
Click on Outlook and then click on Next
If you get this error messages, you will need to launch Outlook and click on Yes when it asks if you want to set it as the default mail client. Go back step 3 and try again.
If all went well , it will tell you that it was able to import the contacts successfully. Click on Finish to go back to the main Thunderbird window.
Click on Address Book to view the imported contact information.
There is now a new list called Contacts and in this list there are your Outlook contacts and distribution lists. Close this window to go back to the main Thunderbird window.
To import email, click on Tools and the Import...

This will show a summary of all the messages that were imported. Click on Finish to go back to the main Thunderbird window.
In the folder list on the left hand side there is now a Outlook Mail folder. In this folder you will find your imported messages.

Having 'Outbox' as in case of Outlook for Thunderbird
Thunderbird doesn't have an 'Outbox' folder like in case of Outlook, but does have an 'Unsent' folder. After composing a message, select File|Send Later (or Ctrl+Shift+Return/Enter) from the Compose menu, rather than the Send button. (Unfortunately there's no button for send later on tools menu, which is why it's so easily missed.) The message then gets put in the unsent folder. To send it from there, go to the main Thunderbird menu and select File|Send Unsent Messages.
How to install lightening extension for Thunderbird
Lightening extension allows quick display of current tasks. Task preview pane displaying task parameters like the description, from date, due date, category, etc and calender showing events.
1. Download extension for lightening from this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2313
2. Save this file “lightning-0.9-tb-win.xpi” on to your desktop.
3.Open Mozilla Thunderbird, from Tools menu select Add-ons.
4.Click the Install button, and locate/select the file you saved on desktop (lightning-0.9-tb-win.xpi) and click "OK".
