Why should the Public Sector prefer FOSS to ProprietarySoftware

  1. FOSS provides affordable and sustainable solutions to different sectors' information and communication needs, particularly for those sectors in the 'developing' countries where most people and organisations cannot afford high licensing fees that are bundled with proprietary software.
  2. FOSS offers low cost access to high performing software for developing nations.
  3. FOSS lowers administrative costs and enhance local IT skills.
  4. FOSS has socio-economic advantages: The adoption of FOSS can improve national competitiveness and help support local innovation. By keeping funds in the country and building skills and capacity locally, the preference for FOSS in government systems can boost the local economy.

There are a number of objections to binary-only drivers. These may be philosophical, with some feeling that drivers distributed without source code are against the beliefs of the free software movement, or itil training pragmatic copyright, security or reliability concerns. As part of a wider campaign against binary blobs, OpenBSD lead developer mcse 2008 certification Theo de Raadt has pointed out that with a binary driver there is "no way to fix it when it breaks (and it will break)" and that once a product which relies on binary drivers mcse 2003 is declared to be end-of-life by the manufacturer, it is effectively "broken."[26] The project has also asserted that binary drivers "hide bugs and workarounds for bugs,"a comment that has been somewhat vindicated by flaws found in mcdba certification binary drivers, including in October 2006 an exploitable bug in NVIDIA's 3D drivers discovered by Rapid7. It is speculated that this bug has existed since 2004, although NVIDIA have denied this, asserting that the issue was only communicated to them in July 2006 and that the 2004 bug was a bug in X.Org, not in NVIDIA's driver.

Mono has always been open source since it first began. Java has always been closed source until recently. So why again is Java more ethical than Mono? __________________ ccna test
